The Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE), University of Jaffna, recently hosted a productive discussion with representatives of the Asia Foundation, including Mr. Arumaithurai Subakaran and Dr. Gopakumar Thampi, to explore collaborative opportunities in Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) research and community engagement.
As part of the session, Dr. Gopakumar Thampi delivered an insightful presentation titled “When Equality Becomes Contested: Gender Justice, Backlash and the Role of Universities,” highlighting contemporary challenges to gender equality and the important role of higher education institutions in fostering inclusive and equitable societies.
The discussion provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas on emerging GEDSI-related issues, identifying potential research initiatives, and exploring opportunities for partnership and community impact in the Northern Province.
CGEE extends its sincere appreciation to the Asia Foundation representatives for their valuable contributions and looks forward to building a meaningful and sustainable collaboration that advances research, advocacy, and community engagement in the region.
